We're always looking for new wines from Spain.  Lately, we've tapped into a new source.  We bring a few of them in now...but there are still more beauties on the horizon.

Wines for Holiday Feasts - Round One

Holiday Wine

It's that time of year again. As I write this, the temperature is near 80 degrees with a warm breeze. Tonight, the cold front hits, bringing rain and a drop in temperatures. It's time to think about holiday feasts. In this first round of feasting wines, we bring back new vintages of old favorites, as well as a couple of newbies. Sharpen your pencil and your taste buds and start making notes on what you'll serve for Thanksgiving or Christmas or Hannukah or New Years...or what you'll take to somebody else's house as a guest. Life is too short to drink bad wine.

Whites from Germany; Reds from Australia

Classy Whites from Dr. Loosen
We’ve carried the “Dr L” Riesling from Dr. Loosen for many years, and it is many customers’ “go to” white with a little sweetness. A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure to meet with Dr. Loosen’s East Coast sales rep and taste some more of their wines. Here are two that I think are a fine addition to our store.
As far as introduction to the Dr. Loosen winery, no one says it better than they do on their website:

Mary's Last (Wine) Stand

Mary will help with your wine selection

It has been three and a half years since we hired Mary Mehlich away from her position as our Sales Rep for The Country Vintner and had her start as Manager of Wine & Words...& Gourmet. She has been a great addition. I’ve come to rely on her not only as an employee, but as a collaborator and, indeed, as a friend. It seems fitting that, in her last weekend as “the wine gal” in Washington, we let her take the lead. So she is introducing four new (for us) wines in Washington. She deserves to take a bow to a round of hearty applause.

Italian Review

Last week I said we were going to review our various wine regions for our Features in September. Some of you caught onto the fact that this “review” is also a bit of inventory clearance prior to our closing Back Bay Cafe and consolidating things in Washington. No matter. You still get some great buys on some great wines, so be sure to get them while they last.
Nino Franco “Rustico” Prosecco Superiore (Valdobbiadene, Veneto, Italy) - Regular Price $21.95/ Feature Price $18.66

South African Review

Stellenbosch winery

It’s time we revisited some of our wine regions, so during the month of September, I’ll pick a different country or area each week and Feature the wines of that region.

Wines that Can't Be Beat to Beat the Heat

Valle de Uco, Argentina

Just as we’re getting into the Dog Days of lying low with our tongues hanging out, we get word some of our favorite summertime refreshers that we’ve had some trouble stocking have once more become available. Now, I’m not suggesting that after a drippy morning of yard chores, you come into the house and pull out a tumbler of chilled Sauvignon Blanc. Water will do very well for your bodily hydration needs.
