What's Cookin' at the Back Bay Café

Beautiful weekend at Wine & Words

What a beautiful time of year this is. Looks like we're going to have nice weather for the next week.

I've got to begin with a short mea culpa. I got lots of response to my post-election day message, and most of it was positive. But some people thought I'd crossed the line and interjected too much politics in a letter that is, after all, supposed to be about food and wine. Point very much taken, and I offer apologies to any of you who may have felt I overstepped. While I do think of our Wine & Words family as a community, it is ever a very inclusive community. There's no "company line" of ideas, and everyone is welcome. And to those of you who took the time to indicate your feelings, a heartfelt thanks. We have always said, "If you like what we do, tell everyone; if you have a problem with anything, tell us." We're always ready to make corrections to better serve you, our very valuable customers. 'Nuff said.

As usual at Wine & Words...& Gourmet in Washington, Mary is opening a couple of our November Featured Wines for you to taste this afternoon (Friday) from 4:00 until 6:00 and all day tomorrow. This weekend she's showcasing the Asara Cabernet Sauvignon 2000 from Stellenbosch, South Africa (Regular $24.90/Feature Price $19.92) and the Daniel Crochet Sancerre 2005 from France's Loire Valley (Regular $21.50/ Feature Price $17.20. These are really special wines for your holiday feasts, and you can try them for free!

And while you're thinking about the holidays, we've decided to extend the time you can book your holiday event with us. If you sign up by next Saturday, November 15, we can still do a full event for $50/person, everything included. So give us a call, let us get you on the calendar, and start the process of planning with Chef Yvonne the best holiday event you've ever had.

Finally, I started the day at Cap'n Buc's picking up some lovely locally caught shrimp for this weekend's Greek Spiced Baked Shrimp on our Back Bay Cafe dinner menu. Of course, there are vegetarian options, as well. And I'm going to offer Featured wines by the glass all weekend, even at Saturday lunch and Sunday brunch. So come to Belhaven and have some of the best food you've ever eaten in a relaxed, convivial atmosphere. We accept reservations for any meal - 252-944-2870 and everything is available for take-out.

So enjoy this beautiful weekend...and come by and see us!
